This project aims at establishing the country’s first Sudan Public Opinion Poll Center (SPOPC). It is a development of KACE’s experience of conducting two opinion polls in 2014 and 2015. These two polls were carried out by surveyors who went to administer interviews in selected households in Khartoum State and 6 other states. The proposed SPOPC is a natural development of these endeavors and builds on the experience and expertise gained from them. Apart from these above-mentioned reports, there is no notable piece of research on the public opinion of Sudanese citizens except for survey data on more concrete issues such as literacy and employment. The absence of data on public opinion is likely related to deliberate policies of Sudan’s now defunct government. Lack of funding and support of such research projects are the main obstacles in understanding how the Sudanese populace view themselves and those they are governed by. Due to lack of government funding, research institutes in Sudan that deal in surveys and statistical analysis largely function as private researchers for commercial clients. Their aim is to research economics and demographics for the purpose of understanding simple supply and demand in Sudan.
